Scraps of Life

Life As a Scrapbooking Newlywed

Blank Scrapbook Pages – First Batch

So our church has a craft fair every year and this year I have already started making some blank scrapbook pages to sell for the first time ever. I’ve only ever scrapbooked for myself or others but always with pictures. I’m hoping they do well and I still plan on making some others. Besides the ones below, I plan on making more Christmas/Winter pages and Wedding pages. I think the Christmas and Winter themed pages will do the best at this craft fair because it is Christmas themed and most of the items for sale are related to Christmas.

Besides making this scrapbook pages to sell, I also got an iPhone, both of which “accomplishments” are on my Day Zero Project List.  Yay for checking a few things off the list! (That I have less than a year to complete AKA a lot of those things will be put on a new list). The new iPhone actually makes a few appearances in the pictures as shadows.

I’m also pretty sure I’ve watched a few more documentaries since I updated the list but I can’t remember the names of them. Time to check my Netflix.

Matt and Jess Go To DisneyWorld!

And seven months later, Jess finishes the scrapbook and shares her favorite pages from it with the world. The pictures themselves are not perfect because I took them with my camera while they were still in the book. Some are also slightly cut off.

If you like anything, please feel free to pin it, bookmark this page, etc. If you use anything for inspiration, I would love to see what you came up with in a comment, linked blog post, etc. Also, if you have any questions please feel free to ask!

I really like this one. It has a lot going on but the page doesn't seem overwhelmed to me.

This is quite possibly my favorite page of the entire album. I can't believe I didn't think of something so obvious for DisneyWorld, but I'm glad I also came across an inspiration for this page on Pinterest as well. The original can be found here.

This page is about the most annoying ride/song in Disney. It's a small world after all! You may not be able to read it in the picture, but the lyrics to the song are written in the circles on the page.

I'm pretty fond of the way I made the "i" in "rides" for this page. I had taken a picture of which mission we went on for Mission Space and it turns out the ticket plus a big circle works out pretty good for an "i"!

This is the adjacent page to the previous picture and I kind of just turned it on it's side. Then, about six pages before the end of the book, I remembered I had special Disney punches.

New Year Shenanigans

It’s my first post about what’s actually going on in our life for 2013. I am quite enjoying the prompts though.

Since this is “Scraps of Life”, it seems only appropriate to mention I’m almost finished with the honeymoon scrapbook. After I finish I’ll pick my favorite pages and make a post about them. It’s only been 7 months today since the wedding, it’s all good.

Anywho, we rang in the new year in our usual fashion of getting all dressed up and going to O’Charley’s then back to my aunt and uncle’s house for board games and movies. It wound up being only Matt and I with my brother and cousin playing Pictionary until around 11:30 when everyone else showed up from their pub crawl. Good times, good times.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

On New Years Day we met Matt’s parents at the Levee for lunch and the two of us went to see two movies, Les Mis and This is 40. I absolutely loved Les Mis and found the voices to mostly be absolutely wonderful. I won’t get too crazy in depth but the only one I wasn’t 100% loving was Amanda Seyfried. Anna Hathaway and Hugh Jackman’s performances made me cry. So very well done. This Is 40 was okay. I enjoyed it but it just seemed to be lacking something and I wished they would have turned over a new leaf way earlier in the movie.

We’ve been to two NKU basketball games and a Cyclones hockey game already this year. Norse women won and the men lost even though they really should have won. Cyclones lost too. Our games attended 2013 record needs to improve!

I have set my book goal for 50 books read in 2013 (again). Let’s hope I can get more than 32 books this year!

2013 is looking goooooood!

Some Old Favorites – Scrapbook Pages

A while back I had taken some pictures of some of a few of my favorite scrapbook pages to show some friends, so I figured it was a great place to begin. Speaking of beginnings, my love for scrapbooking began when my cousin, Randy, bought me a picture book for Christmas the year before we went to Europe together. It wasn’t actually meant for scrapbooking, but I decided it would be fun and I’ve been hooked and improving ever since.

When I took these pictures, I tried my best to reduce glare but it was difficult. I think in the future, I will take the pages out of the protective sleeves and find the most well-lit place in our apartment. If you have any tips, feel free to share.

For starters, here’s a page from one of Matt and I’s trips to an adorable county in Indiana. I just love the simplicity of this page. Since I did this a while ago, I can’t really recall where everything came from but I do know that the heart punch came from Creative MemoriesPSA – It is on the “While Supplies Last” list if you like it.

This one, as you can tell from the picture in the top left of the page, is about our engagement on September 18, 2010. Matt was a sports writer at the time, but every few months he was to write a column about anything he wanted. The first one after he proposed, he wrote about everything leading up to that moment for that day. This page is very special to me and showcases how you can incorporate a newspaper article into your scrapbook pages.

I’ll admit it. We’re obsessed. One of my scrapbooks is completely made up from Reds related pictures. Games, Redsfest, etc. This is the title page for that album. For games pages, I always try to remember our tickets. At any given time, I have old tickets for something in my wallet just waiting to be scrapbooked.

This was from RedsFest the first year we went. If you don’t know, the Nasty Boys were a trio of Reds relief pitchers in the 90’s, most importantly, 1990. I decided to take a play on that by putting pictures of my husband and his cousin on the page with the picture of their jerseys.

Don’t have any pictures? No problem. I cut the front page off the Playbill from Aronoff’s showing of Mary Poppins we went to, typed up a synopsis of the day on Word, put the tickets in and embellished it a bit. I love the brightness of it. (Pay no attention to the “Relay for” bubbles as that is the opposite page)

This is one of my most fun scrapbook pages. It’s from the Merry-Go Round Museum in Sandusky, OH and if you’re ever up there, it is so worth the money. I loved setting this page up like a little scrapbook merry go round.

Last, for now, but not least is the page from New Years Eve 2010. Fun background pages can really make a scrapbook page design.

So there you have it, my first installment of scrapbook pages. Feel free to pin them and use them as inspiration if you so desire!

Scraps of Life

I’ve decided to bring a new life to my blog and motivate myself to get back into posting more frequently. In order to do this, I’m going to take pictures of my scrapbook pages and share them with the masses for inspiration and what have you. I also plan on executing more Pinterest projects and showing them off here.

All of this will be intertwined with the ramblings and happenings of my life. Stay tuned!

Weekend At Last

It’s finally the weekend, but it’s bittersweet as I wish what happened early this morning in Colorado wasn’t even someone’s passing thought. My heart breaks for all of the friends and family affected by the shooting at the multiplex for the showing of The Dark Knight Rises. I have never and will never understand people. We were already planning on going to see it tomorrow with my brother and now we’re looking forward to being searched upon entering the theater building. My prayers go out to all of those people.

Wednesday was spent hanging out at my aunt’s house with a lot of my other aunts and female cousins, enjoying delicious food and some wine. If only it were for a happier occasion than supporting my aunt in her upcoming battle with cancer. Despite the reason for the get-together, it was absolutely wonderful to be together, support her as a family and laugh. Laughter, as they always say, is the best medicine.

Moving on from the depressing…I’m watching Glee on Netflix for the first time. I’m now on episode 14 of season 1 and I’m not sure why I never watched this before. I love it. A lot.

In just a little bit I’m going to start the scrapbook for our honeymoon. I haven’t scrapbooked for MONTHS and I miss it terribly. So excited I don’t have wedding projects flooding my brain 24/7 anymore and sucking up all of my time.

Sweep Up Those Cards!

By Cards, I mean Cardinals.

Yesterday’s game was by far the most exciting game Matt and I have ever attended together, so much so that we’re watching it again, while keeping tabs on the current game as well. It was a sell-out game where most of the people stayed for the entire nail-biting experience. I’ve never been to a playoff game (yet) but the atmosphere of that game had to be akin to one. You could feel the energy, excitement and tension in the air just waiting to be released once it finally happened – the Reds swept the Cardinals in the first series after the All-Star break. Amazing.

Too bad that Votto has to have surgery to fix his torn meniscus and will be out for 3-4 weeks. At least it’s not close to playoff time. I just hope he heals well.

The bad news about being at one of the best games ever was that we didn’t get home until around 11:30pm and both of us had work early this morning. Thankfully I wasn’t exhausted all day but it would have been worth it even if I was. The day did drag but at least it wasn’t because I was tired. Just a case of the Mondays.

After work, however, I finally got to go out to my favorite scrapbooking store, Scraps Etc. and gather supplies to start our honeymoon album. I found so many Disney goodies and even made a stop at Hobby Lobby to get more including a 100 pack of multi-colored 12×12 scrapbooking pages on sale. That’ll last me a while. In theory, I will start working on it on Friday while Matt goes out with some of his guy friends. I can hardly wait!
