Scraps of Life

Life As a Scrapbooking Newlywed

Broccoli with Orecchiette

Or least that’s what it started out as with the recipe online. I turned it into Broccoli with just whatever pasta I wound up buying at the store. (I had other pasta to buy for a recipe so I just bought them both the same). Also, I find it amusing that I post more recipes than scrapbooking things here. I’m finding that I rather enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, as shocking as it is for me to say those words.

Anyway, I found the recipe on Pinterest and it can be found here. For mine, I used whole wheat spiral pasta instead of orecchiette, didn’t garnish it and added some grilled chicken. I also used frozen broccoli because I was feeling extra lazy at the store yesterday. Regardless of those changes, it still tasted delicious. If you’re not a huge fan of garlic, I would cut some of it back because I would consider it to be kind of strong. Delicious though, so take your chances!

It made more than that, but I made this to pack some in other containers as well.

In other news, I got a new job tutoring children which is only part-time so I’m also back at Home Depot cashiering. I’m loving it so much! Matt and I also celebrated our one year anniversary that I’ll take some time and back a back-dated post about soon, maybe even today! It was a fantastic time and now I know more than ever that they really aren’t kidding when they say that the first year flies by. Wow.

Edamame is Delicious Beyond Measure

We have Matt’s aunt and uncle whom reside in Florida to thank for our obsession with all things edamame. They introduced it to us when we visited them on our honeymoon and we haven’t been able to get away from it since. When I found this recipe on Pinterest, I just had to try it. I was happy to find the shelled edamame it calls for in the organic section of our Kroger so I didn’t have to try and do that myself.

Besides accidentally purchasing meat-filled tortellini, I was extremely happy with my little experiment. It still tasted great and I look forward to the leftovers tomorrow at lunch time. Next time, I’ll double-check that I do in fact have cheese tortellini.

I would suggest prepping everything before boiling the water because I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off but I also may just be slow at chopping.

Matt and Jess Go To DisneyWorld!

And seven months later, Jess finishes the scrapbook and shares her favorite pages from it with the world. The pictures themselves are not perfect because I took them with my camera while they were still in the book. Some are also slightly cut off.

If you like anything, please feel free to pin it, bookmark this page, etc. If you use anything for inspiration, I would love to see what you came up with in a comment, linked blog post, etc. Also, if you have any questions please feel free to ask!

I really like this one. It has a lot going on but the page doesn't seem overwhelmed to me.

This is quite possibly my favorite page of the entire album. I can't believe I didn't think of something so obvious for DisneyWorld, but I'm glad I also came across an inspiration for this page on Pinterest as well. The original can be found here.

This page is about the most annoying ride/song in Disney. It's a small world after all! You may not be able to read it in the picture, but the lyrics to the song are written in the circles on the page.

I'm pretty fond of the way I made the "i" in "rides" for this page. I had taken a picture of which mission we went on for Mission Space and it turns out the ticket plus a big circle works out pretty good for an "i"!

This is the adjacent page to the previous picture and I kind of just turned it on it's side. Then, about six pages before the end of the book, I remembered I had special Disney punches.

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas!

It’s no secret that Christmas is my most favorite time of the year. When I worked in retail, I would wear either a Santa hat, elf hat or reindeer antlers every day to work starting the day after Thanksgiving up until Christmas Eve. I would always help decorate the places for Christmas and right now, I have snowflakes hanging from the ceiling above my desk at work as well as ribbons tied to the door handles. I’m still adding things, but I’ll be sure to take pictures of my work space when I’m finished.

Since we’re just starting out, a lot of the stuff we have so far are wonderful hand me downs. We’ve been blessed with loving families that shared their Christmas treasures with us. A few things are original to us and we’re still on the lookout for stockings we want but below you’ll see what we have so far.

I may or may not have a slight obsession with penguins. The two in the two left picture both sing and dance. The one with the yellow eyebrows sings a Christmas version of “Tooty Fruity” and his eyebrows move. Matt got him for me last year and my Grandma got me the other one. I love them both. The tall wooden penguin with all of the stuffed ones on the chair came from the craft fair at church this year.

The two garland creatures came from Matt’s aunt and uncle and I just think they’re adorable. Baxter was unsure of the deer at first and kept going up and sniffing him. It was pretty cute. I’m only sad I didn’t get a picture to share. The snowman in the middle came from Grandma and was made my some of the “crafty ladies” at church.

Now here is our Christmas tree, also from Matt’s aunt and uncle. I can’t wait to get more and more ornaments for our tree and other random decoration. I’ve found a few very cute things on Pinterest  (My DIY Christmas Board) I plan on making for either this year or next year as well. Maybe I’ll even start adding to the craft fair at church!

Some Old Favorites – Scrapbook Pages

A while back I had taken some pictures of some of a few of my favorite scrapbook pages to show some friends, so I figured it was a great place to begin. Speaking of beginnings, my love for scrapbooking began when my cousin, Randy, bought me a picture book for Christmas the year before we went to Europe together. It wasn’t actually meant for scrapbooking, but I decided it would be fun and I’ve been hooked and improving ever since.

When I took these pictures, I tried my best to reduce glare but it was difficult. I think in the future, I will take the pages out of the protective sleeves and find the most well-lit place in our apartment. If you have any tips, feel free to share.

For starters, here’s a page from one of Matt and I’s trips to an adorable county in Indiana. I just love the simplicity of this page. Since I did this a while ago, I can’t really recall where everything came from but I do know that the heart punch came from Creative MemoriesPSA – It is on the “While Supplies Last” list if you like it.

This one, as you can tell from the picture in the top left of the page, is about our engagement on September 18, 2010. Matt was a sports writer at the time, but every few months he was to write a column about anything he wanted. The first one after he proposed, he wrote about everything leading up to that moment for that day. This page is very special to me and showcases how you can incorporate a newspaper article into your scrapbook pages.

I’ll admit it. We’re obsessed. One of my scrapbooks is completely made up from Reds related pictures. Games, Redsfest, etc. This is the title page for that album. For games pages, I always try to remember our tickets. At any given time, I have old tickets for something in my wallet just waiting to be scrapbooked.

This was from RedsFest the first year we went. If you don’t know, the Nasty Boys were a trio of Reds relief pitchers in the 90’s, most importantly, 1990. I decided to take a play on that by putting pictures of my husband and his cousin on the page with the picture of their jerseys.

Don’t have any pictures? No problem. I cut the front page off the Playbill from Aronoff’s showing of Mary Poppins we went to, typed up a synopsis of the day on Word, put the tickets in and embellished it a bit. I love the brightness of it. (Pay no attention to the “Relay for” bubbles as that is the opposite page)

This is one of my most fun scrapbook pages. It’s from the Merry-Go Round Museum in Sandusky, OH and if you’re ever up there, it is so worth the money. I loved setting this page up like a little scrapbook merry go round.

Last, for now, but not least is the page from New Years Eve 2010. Fun background pages can really make a scrapbook page design.

So there you have it, my first installment of scrapbook pages. Feel free to pin them and use them as inspiration if you so desire!

Scraps of Life

I’ve decided to bring a new life to my blog and motivate myself to get back into posting more frequently. In order to do this, I’m going to take pictures of my scrapbook pages and share them with the masses for inspiration and what have you. I also plan on executing more Pinterest projects and showing them off here.

All of this will be intertwined with the ramblings and happenings of my life. Stay tuned!
