Scraps of Life

Life As a Scrapbooking Newlywed

Matt and Jess Go To DisneyWorld!

And seven months later, Jess finishes the scrapbook and shares her favorite pages from it with the world. The pictures themselves are not perfect because I took them with my camera while they were still in the book. Some are also slightly cut off.

Our last name is blacked out on the certificate, but that is our "Official DisneyWorld Marriage License". The same gentleman who wrote that out for us let us call Mickey and Minnie on the phone for a congratulations on the wedding and gave us a free dessert!

I really like this one. It has a lot going on but the page doesn't seem overwhelmed to me.

This is quite possibly my favorite page of the entire album. I can't believe I didn't think of something so obvious for DisneyWorld, but I'm glad I also came across an inspiration for this page on Pinterest as well. The original can be found here.

This page is about the most annoying ride/song in Disney. It's a small world after all! You may not be able to read it in the picture, but the lyrics to the song are written in the circles on the page.

I'm pretty fond of the way I made the "i" in "rides" for this page. I had taken a picture of which mission we went on for Mission Space and it turns out the ticket plus a big circle works out pretty good for an "i"!

This is the adjacent page to the previous picture and I kind of just turned it on it's side. Then, about six pages before the end of the book, I remembered I had special Disney punches.

Birthday Weekend!

Not many couples can say they get to celebrate both of their birthdays in one weekend, but Matt and I are only two days apart, except he’s also a year old. I’ve noticed I’ve reached the age to where I can’t remember how old I am. I’m not sure if it’s just because age doesn’t really matter to me or that Matt’s birthday is so close, I get our ages confused. I told someone at work the other day I was turning 27 Sunday, not 26.

Last night (Matt’s birthday) we had some friends over for a game night and it was a blast! We played Quelf and Pictionary Man, both of which I hadn’t played in far too long. My team won Pictionary Man, which was great to get out again! My brother brought over some chips and salsa that Mom made from some fresh tomatoes in the garden. It was delicious! Especially for the first time ever of her making it. I’m glad there’s plenty left to enjoy. 🙂

Today we went to Coney Island for the first time together and for a long time for both of us. Matt got free tickets for signing us both up for the Breast Cancer 5K  in October. I’m pretty sure the last time I was there, it was for Mom’s office picnic which was a very long time ago. I can’t even remember how long. It was a great day for it and some of those rides are just awesome. Even the paddleboats were free!

Tomorrow we’re going out to Applebees or Mellow Mushroom for both of our birthdays with each of our families. The Bees is our first choice because there’s a fundraiser for autism awareness there but if we can’t get in in a reasonable time, we’re going to go to Mellow Mushroom instead. Then I have to go to a meeting a church where I plan on demanding cake because it’s my birthday. 😉

First Holiday as a Married Couple

Sleeping in this morning was absolutely wonderful besides Baxter not being exactly thrilled with the idea. He’s used to being fed at the “normal” time we’re up throughout the week. He lived.

Matt made us a breakfast of scrambled eggs with extra cheese and milk cooked into them and bacon. It was delicious and I love that I married a man who loves to cook for us. Then we went to fill up our tanks for $0.50 off a gallon – gotta love Kroger.

Since Kohls is right there, we decided to go ahead and use our gift card someone wonderful got us for a wedding gift. Walked away with all kinds of goodies, including a new purse, since my current one decided to break in the parking lot walking towards the door. Just snapped off at the corner. Pretty sure it was fate telling me to get a new purse.

After shopping, we went and spent some time with Mamaw before taking her, my parents and my brother to Matt’s parent’s house for a cookout where we all had a great time. Real hormone-free steaks, potato salad, corn on the cob, mushrooms & onions, broccoli, hot bread and apple pie to top it all off. Soooo delicious.

Once we had finished and settled down for a little bit, Matt, my brother and I went to Strickers Grove while everyone else stayed inside the air conditioning. It was super hot but so worth it. Lyle and I had never been before but we all loved it. Just an old-time amusement park filled with old-timey rides, games and a cute little train that went around the perimeter of the park. My favorite part was definitely the Tilt-O-Whirl, especially the second time when we finally got the timing right on how to spin a lot.

Now Matt and I are relaxing on the couch watching some shows. Not looking forward to going back to work in the morning, but at least it’s only two days before the weekend!

Let’s Start at the Very Beginning

…a very good place to start!

We’ve now been married for 24 days and it doesn’t seem possible. Tomorrow will be our first holiday as a married couple and I’m really excited to share it with both of our families. Mother-in-law invited my parents and brother over to their house tomorrow for a cookout and we’re also going to Stricker’s Grove, a small amusement park only opened to the public a few times a year. I’ve never been there but we’ve watched some videos about their rides and it looks like such a fun little park.

Work let us out an hour early today but the ride home wasn’t so great. I hadn’t been feeling well since around one and the bus was a very bumpy ride. Thankfully I was able to come home and take nap with my cat before heading over to my parent’s house for a wine and pasta night. It was delicious and I was feeling much better by the end of the time there.

Now Matt and I are reliving our childhood by watching new episodes of Figure It Out. It’s scary how much they kept the show the same. Sooooo corny but it’s so fun to watch for a good laugh. We’re also officially old. Kenan & Kel and All That are showing reruns on Nick at Nite.

Andy Griffith passed away this morning and I can truly say that I am sad and send my deepest condolences to the family. I loved The Andy Griffith Show and more than once wished I could just jump into Mayberry and live there. Such a simple place and time; almost impossible to find nowadays.
